Sailing in
Turkey is easy, if you consider the summerly main winds.
The wind ist mostly from NW or N, sometimes from NE. Northerly,
Meltemi (Etesien) wind can be very strong for days, and even blow all
night!
The
turkish coastline south of Cape Knidos (greek island of Kos) is relatively
safe from strong Meltemi, but 3-5 Bft. are quite normal.
In August, east
of Marmaris, there is often calm sea, it is very hot and can be no wind
for days. It is recommended, to search the nice cooling winds east
(Goekova Bay), west (Aegaean sea and Dodecanese/Greece) and north of
Bodrum (Kusadasi and Cesme) at this time, if you are able to deal even
with a strong Meltemi-period. In the ideal case, you can sail a chartered
boat down from Cesme
or
Kusadasi
south-easterly
to Bodrum or Marmaris. Sailing "upwards" from Marmaris or
Bodrum to Cesme or Kusadasi is a funtrip for sportive sailing crews!
